Perched at approximately 6,300 feet in the North Tahoe backcountry, Lost Trail Lodge puts you right where you want to be — at the base of The Diamond, our premier steep skiing and riding. After a full day in the mountains, return to the Lodge for après snacks, a crackling fire, a sweat in the sauna, and a chef-prepared dinner. Wake up surrounded by the Sierra, enjoy breakfast, grab a packed lunch if you're heading out for another day of guided skiing, riding or touring.
Beyond skiing, this is a beautiful place to spend time with friends. Explore the surrounding winter landscape on snowshoes, relax by the fire, or just enjoy being together in a truly special backcountry setting. The full Lodge has four shared bedrooms, each sleeping 3–4 guests with a private bath, making it an ideal basecamp for groups looking to ski, connect, and spend more time in the mountains.
Lodge amenities include: Full and single beds, Flush toilets, hot showers, sauna, good times.
Meet us at the Pacific Crest Snowcats trailhead on Cabin Creek Road, just off Highway 89 — approximately 5 miles south of downtown Truckee and 7 miles north of Olympic Valley Road.
Arrive ready to ski or ride, with your overnight bags packed. Our guides will greet you, show you where to park, and help load your bags and gear. From there, we'll head into the backcountry for a full day of catskiing or touring.
At the end of the day, we'll bring you and your bags to the Lost Trail Lodge, where your backcountry evening begins.

Advanced to Expert skiers and riders

Wake up already in the zone, enjoy breakfast, grab your packed lunch, boot up and head back into the mountains for another day of catskiing or touring. On your final day, we'll return you and your bags to the trailhead.
Lodge & Ski trips are designed for advanced to expert skiers and snowboarders who are comfortable skiing in variable snow conditions and challenging backcountry terrain. You should be confident linking turns in deep powder and prepared for the range of conditions found outside the resort, from soft snow to heavier snow or crust.
You do not need previous backcountry experience or special equipment. PCS provides avalanche beacons and instruction on their use, and our experienced guides assess conditions throughout the day and select terrain based on the group and the day's conditions.
Come prepared for full days in the mountains. Bring appropriate layers, water, and the gear you normally use for backcountry skiing or riding. We'll take care of the rest — including getting you, your gear and your overnight bags between the trailhead and Lost Trail Lodge.
Please bring your skis/snowboard, poles, and boots. Powder skis and boards are highly recommended. Typically, 105-120mm underfoot for skis will serve you best. For snowboarders, it’s a good idea to have an adjustable ski pole for deep snow and short traverses. We do not provide any ski or snowboard equipment, you can rent equipment nearby in Truckee or Tahoe City. We will provide beacons for all our guests.
Lost Trail Lodge is a remote backcountry lodge, so pack light and keep it simple. We recommend bringing one small, soft-sided duffel for your overnight belongings and one small backpack to keep with you during your day in the snowcat. Your duffel will be transported to the lodge and waiting for you when you arrive after your ski day.
A few things to leave at home: hard-sided luggage, bulky bags, unnecessary extra clothing, and anything you won’t need during your stay.
Space in the snowcat is limited, so the lighter you pack, the better.
